Medica received approval to become a Beyond the Yellow Ribbon organization

Minnetonka, MN - Medica recently received approval to join 80 other Minnesota organizations as a Beyond the Yellow Ribbon member. This recognition reflects the organization's support and commitment to veterans and service members. The official proclamation ceremony will take place August 29, 2024.

"We are extremely proud to earn the Beyond the Yellow Ribbon designation,” said Dan Abdul, Medica Chief Information and Operations Officer and executive sponsor of Medica Salutes, an employee resource group within Medica for military veterans and advocates. “Medica is committed to supporting our employees' military service whether they're active duty, a veteran, or a family member. This provides an opportunity to create broader support for our communities as a BTYR organization.

After more than four years of efforts, Medica is honored to be approved to become a Beyond the Yellow Ribbon (BTYR) organization. This program managed by the Minnesota National Guard raises awareness and connects service members and their families with community support, training, services, and resources. This recognition means Medica joins 53 community networks and more than 80 companies throughout the state that are certified.

To achieve this certification, organizations must take a number of steps, including signing the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Statement of Support and the adoption of policy changes like paid leave for military training and service. For several years, the Medica Salutes employee resource group and a steering committee have championed that work. The group has also been active in the community. Medica Salutes members provide military food support, attend hiring events, and more.

"I'm particularly thankful for the Medica Salutes Employee Resource Group,” said Lisa Erickson, Medica President and CEO. “They display unwavering dedication in supporting their colleagues at Medica and in the communities we serve.”

Medica will be officially proclaimed a Beyond the Yellow Ribbon organization at a ceremony on August, 29 2024, at their Minnetonka offices.
