New Individual Market Health Insurance Plan, Balance by Medica delivered by Mercy℠, Introduced in St. Louis Area

Available for Individual Plan Members for January 1, 2022 Coverage


MINNETONKA, Minn. —Medica today announced a new health plan option for individuals and families in the St. Louis area, Balance by MedicaSM delivered by Mercy. This is an insurance plan for individuals and families focused on getting the highest quality care at an affordable price. 

Founded in 1975, Medica is a major non-profit health insurance company serving about 1million members in the central and southwestern Unites States. 

People interested in Balance by Medica delivered by Mercy can enroll in the plan starting Nov. 1, 2021 when the Open Enrollment Period for 2022 begins. A variety of benefit design options are available, including plans with $0 office visit copays, coverage for virtual care, copay plans and a catastrophic plan for those who qualify. Enrollment in the plan is available through the Health Insurance Marketplace (www.healthcare.gov) for coverage on or after Jan. 1, 2022. Balance by Medica delivered by Mercy is available to residents of the following counties: Franklin, Jefferson, Lincoln, Saint Charles, Saint Louis, Saint Louis City and Warren. 

In the St. Louis area, the Balance by Medica delivered by Mercy provider network includes about 2,000 primary care and specialty physicians, nine hospitals, home health services and Mercy Convenient Care clinics. Members have direct access to Mercy Hospital St. Louis, Mercy Children's Hospital St. Louis, Mercy Heart Hospital St. Louis, Mercy Rehabilitation Hospital St. Louis, Mercy Hospital Jefferson, Mercy Hospital Lincoln, Mercy Hospital South, Mercy Hospital South Rehab, Mercy Hospital Washington.

Balance by Medica delivered by Mercy was introduced in southwestern Missouri and parts of Oklahoma in 2021. Altogether, the Balance by Medica network includes about 5,500 primary care and specialty providers and more than 40 hospitals. 

A complex specialty care program featuring Mayo Clinic is available and includes an allowance for transportation, lodging and living expenses in certain cases. 

Balance by Medica delivered by Mercy features the Healthy Living with Medica program, a personalized wellness program with reward and discounts earned for participation. Members also have access to a Health Advocate, an individual who helps members address health care concerns and can do the legwork to help identify appropriate providers and find answers to questions about claims, costs, procedures and other health matters.
